My eyeball twitches under the dim lights. It asks politely to be<br \/>rejoined to the rest of my face. The ophthalmologist says, <em>no, I don\u2019t think<br \/>so. You are broken nerve and fried pupil.<\/em> My eyeball says, <em>well, what about your<br \/>Hippocratic Oath?<\/em> The ophthalmologist laughs. He turns to me.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Some joker, right?<\/em> He takes my other eyeball, which is silent. He leaves my<br \/>sockets stuffed with cotton.<\/p>\n<p>________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Remi Recchia is a trans poet and essayist from Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is a PhD candidate in English-Creative Writing at Oklahoma State University. He currently serves as an associate editor for the<\/em> Cimarron Review <em>and the Reviews Editor for<\/em> Gasher Journal. <em>A four-time Pushcart Prize nominee, Remi\u2019s work has appeared in <\/em>World Literature Today<em>, <\/em>Best New Poets 2021<em>, <\/em>Columbia Online Journal<em>, <\/em>Harpur Palate<em>, and <\/em>Juked<em>, among others. He holds an MFA in poetry from Bowling Green State University.
